Bushra Bibi moves IHC against Bani Gala sub-jail notification

ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the notification declaring Banigala as sub-jail in the Toshakhana case verdict.

The complainant pleaded with the court to transfer her to Adiala Jail as per the original order of the Toshakhana case.

Request to annul the notification of the January 31 of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to declare Bani Gala as a sub-jail.

Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has been arrested by the women Police from Adiala jail where she reached for the Toshkahana reference case.

On December 2023, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued a final call-up notice to Bushra Bibi, former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife, summoning her to appear before the Rawalpindi office in Islamabad on December 11 in connection with the Toshakhana case.

The notice alleges that during Imran Khan’s tenure as prime minister, Bushra Bibi received and retained gifts from foreign dignitaries worth millions of rupees, violating established procedures for handling such gifts.

According to NAB, she kept a locket with a chain, a pair of earrings, two rings, and a pair of bracelets in 2019.

In 2020, she retained a necklace, a bracelet, a ring, and a pair of earrings.

In 2021, she received a necklace with a chain, a pair of earrings, a ring, and a wristwatch, which she allegedly failed to deposit in the Toshakhana as required by law.

The anti-graft body has requested Bushra Bibi to appear before them along with the aforementioned items to answer questions and provide clarifications regarding the matter.

Who is Bushra Bibi?

Bibi is reportedly the first niqab-wearing spouse of a Pakistani Prime Minister. Shortly after Khan took office, Bibi was quoted by the media as being “afraid” and commented “I am sure Imran Khan will fulfill his promises to Pakistan. Allah has given us a great responsibility. Power comes and goes. Imran Khan aims to eliminate poverty from the country. He wants to improve the health and education system in Pakistan.”

Bibi has described Imran as an ‘extremely simple man.

Talking about the PTI’s slogan and promise of “change”, she claimed that only Imran can bring about the promised change in the country but it would take time.

The residence of Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has been declared a sub-jail and his wife Bushra Bibi has been shifted to Bani Gala under tight security after the accountability court sentenced her to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana reference.

A notification has also been issued to declare Bani Gala as a sub-jail for former first lady Bushra Bibi and the prison staff has also been posted in Bani Gala.

Earlier today, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Biba were sentenced to 14 years in jail by the Accountability Court judge Muhammad Bashir in the Toshakhana case.

Similarly, Bushra Bibi, after her conviction in the Toshakhana reference, has been transferred to Bani Gala, with the area itself now classified as a sub-jail. The presence of prison staff in Bani Gala reinforces the security measures surrounding Bushra Bibi’s confinement.

‘If I have been sent to Bani Gala under a deal, cancel the deal, and put me in jail’

Bushra Bibi, wife of former PTI chairman Imran Khan, broke her silence for the first time while speaking to journalists in Adiala Jail after the hearing of the illegal marriage case.

In a defiant tone, Bushra Bibi asserted, “If I have been sent to Bani Gala under a deal, cancel the deal, and put me in jail.” She expressed suspicion, stating, “I feel like this is all a plan to humiliate me.”

“My house has been turned into a prison; it is not a hotel,” expressed Bushra Bibi, emphasizing the restrictive conditions she faces. “We are not cowards; we are true people. We have not done anything wrong in life,” she asserted, defending her integrity.

The former first lady shared insights into her situation, stating, “A person has come to jail for self-arrest, and what can happen.” She lamented the transformation of her home into what she described as a jail, asserting, “Our faith is strong, and we are standing here because of faith.”

Recalling her journey to Adiala Jail, Bushra Bibi revealed the confusion surrounding her situation, mentioning. “I was told that I was being taken to a small rest house.” She acknowledged the involvement of multiple individuals in negotiations but expressed her determination, asserting, “I am not a weak woman.”

She mentioned the involvement of various individuals in negotiations but expressed confusion regarding the intended message to convey to Imran Khan.

Addressing the allegations leveled against her, Bushra Bibi adamantly stated, “False accusations were made against me.” She condemned the actions aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the party’s founder and weakening its morale.

Closing her remarks with a reference to religious teachings, she quoted, “In the Holy Qur’an, Allah has hated the hypocrite and the devil. Goodness is not in the beard and the veil.” Bushra Bibi’s candid statements offer a glimpse into her perspective amidst the legal and public scrutiny.
