Tashkent.On May 2, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, held talks with the U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad.
The conversation discussed the current state and prospects of resolving the Afghan conflict and mechanisms to facilitate this process.
U.S. Special Representative highly appreciated the comprehensive assistance provided by the Uzbek side under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Afghanistan.
The sides stressed their common interest in a peaceful, stable and sovereign Afghanistan. The parties noted the urgency and importance of supporting a comprehensive political settlement by the parties concerned, which will put an end to the long-standing war in this country.
The parties agreed that there is no military solution to the conflict. Uzbekistan and the United States agreed to support inter-Afghan inclusive negotiations and work together on initiatives that promote regional trade, investment and infrastructure projects, and accelerate Afghanistan’s integration into regional processes.
