Afghanistan is a heroic country that has never surrendered: China

China’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday praised Afghanistan as a “heroic country” that has never surrendered to foreign forces, adding that a new page has been turned in the history of the war-torn country which is on the threshold of national peace and reconstruction.

China sincerely hopes relevant parties in Afghanistan will form an open and inclusive political system, pursue moderate and steady domestic and foreign policies and completely sever ties with all terrorist organizations, said the ministry’s spokesperson Wang Wenbin.

Wang made the remarks in response to a question about reports that the Taliban will announce a new government on Friday.

“Afghanistan is a heroic country and has never surrendered,” Wang said quoting Chairman Mao Zedong.

“China and Afghanistan are friendly countries. China does not want to harm Afghanistan, and neither does Afghanistan,” Wang said, adding that the two countries are mutually supportive.

China will, as always, pursue a friendly policy for all Afghan people, respect Afghanistan’s sovereign independence and territorial integrity, refrain from interfering in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, and continue to provide assistance within its capabilities for the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan, Wang stressed.
