Victory Day of Azerbaijan

Islamabad (Special Report): Every year 8 November marks Victory Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Today, Azerbaijani people solemnly celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Victory in the country and abroad.

Armenia kept Azerbaijani territories under illegal occupation almost 3 decades. Despite the decisions and resolutions of the leading international institutions, Armenia ignored all these decisions and resolutions and continued to illegally occupy almost 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories for 30 years. During the times of occupation, more than 1 million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs. People of Azerbaijan became the subject of ethnic cleansing. UN Security Council adopted 4resolutions demanding immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from theterritories of Azerbaijan but these resolutions were never implemented. 2 years ago, in 2020 under the leadership ofPresident Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani Army liberated itsterritories from Armenian occupation and Armenia was forced to sign an act of capitulation, thus acknowledging Azerbaijan’s historic victory. Azerbaijan ensured its territorial integrity and the fundamental rights of nearly one million displaced Azerbaijanis were restored.

During the occupation, everything was razed into ground, cities and villages, buildings, historical monuments, 65 out of 67 mosques was destroyed by Armenia. Even the graveyards were desecrated, destroyed, and looted. By doing so, Armenia just wanted to humiliate Muslim world.

Right after the liberation, Azerbaijan started large-scale restoration and reconstruction works in the liberated areas.

In 2021 and 2022, the Azerbaijani Government allocated nearly $3 billion to the large-scale reconstruction and restoration activities in the liberated lands. 2 international airports namely Fuzuli and Zangilan International Airports were built within very short period of time. The Great Return program started by the Government of Azerbaijan.First Azerbaijani IDPs have already returned to liberated Zangilan region’s Aghali village, which was rebuilt based on the “smart village” concept.

Azerbaijan offered Armenia peace immediately after the war. This was perhaps one of a handful of examples in the military history of the world when lands remained under occupation for 30 years, people lived in suffering and deprivation, historical and religious monuments were destroyed, cities were razed to the ground, and more than a million mines planted, and yet Azerbaijan is offering peace. However, Armenia is not interested in peace.

Moreover, in the past few months, Armenia has committed repeated military provocations against Azerbaijan. More than 1,400 new landmines were planted in the Lachindistrict alone, and these mines were planted in 2021, after the war. This is a flagrant act of terror against Azerbaijan. Since the war ended, more than 240 Azerbaijani citizens have been killed or seriously injured due to landmine explosions.

It should be noted that Pakistan from the first day of the former Karabakh conflict, as well as the during Patriotic War in 2020 morally and politically supported just position of Azerbaijan. It can be seen the waving Pakistani flag everywhere in Azerbaijan along with Azerbaijani and Turkish flags because of this great support in Patriotic War.
