Three policemen were killed and one wounded in a gun attack on a checkpost in Quetta’s Saryab Road area on Sunday, Balochistan Deputy Inspector General Police Abdul Razzaq Cheema told the media.
The DIGP said four unidentified assailants riding two motorcycles opened fire on a checkpost in the Chakki Shahwani area. One policeman was killed on the spot and two others wounded, police sources said.
The injured were rushed to the hospital where two of the police officers succumbed to their wounds.
The gunmen fled following the attack, the sources said, adding that the shooting appeared to be an incident of targeted killing.
Security was tightened following the attack and all exit and entry points to the city were secured, the DIGP said.
Saryab road is considered to be one of the sensitive areas of Quetta. Militants have been targeting security forces in the area for almost a decade.
Balochistan has experienced incident violence and targeted killings for over a decade.
